Case Study of Atopy Free Healthy City Project in Yanggu-gun, Korea : the 3 years activities

Abstract
Objectives: This study is intended to analyze the Atopy Free City project, which the Yanggu-gun started as a new approach about atopic dermatitis, and present its performance with suggestions. Methods: The target area is Yanggu-gun and relevant official documents carried out from 2008 through 2011 were analysed. Results: The result shows that the county established a community network and an advisory committee, and promoted the understanding of atopic dermatitis. The county also built an atopic dermatitis care village with ¡®Healthy Woods Atopy Center¡¯ where visitors can stay to not only treat atopic dermatitis but also get accurate health information and experience eco-friendly programs. Its ¡°Atopic dermatitis camps¡± provide campers with enhanced, self-care skills. Conclusion: As part of the Healthy City Project, the Atopy Free City project provides various programs to people from Seoul and other cities, as well as the local residents. The project has established a foundation of eco-friendly, high-value-added industry, leading to enhancement of the brand image of the county. This case is a good example of a project carried out with the cooperation of a local government and a university program.
